Liquid neon can be a substitute for liquid helium serving as a cooling agent for extremely sensitive infrared sensors. The atomic diameter of neon is about twice the diameter of helium and, therefore, it dissipates more slowly and allows satellites to last longer.

In liquid form, oxygen is used as a component of rocket fuel, where it acts as an oxidant.
